Integrity, creativity and professionalism shape the way we work.
What is the purpose of a headshot?
Professional headshots are a way to display ourselves proudly online while helping ourselves and others remember we’re interacting with another human on the other side of the computer. This brings a level of human connection to an otherwise virtual interaction.
First impression matter. Social media and modern marketing have made it necessary for businesses and individuals to have an online presence in one way or another to compete and that means having an online profile. Professional Headshots are a good way to stand out from the crowd.
Having an excellent headshot a way to open doors and create opportunities. It will also leave a lasting impression during interviews, auditions, networking events and online interactions.
Headshots vs Portraits
A headshot is perfect for your online profiles, corporate websites, billboards, business cards and anywhere else you may need to display your picture. In these sessions all images are captured from the chest up and I will coach you through the entire process. During the session the lighting and background may change to make sure it matches your aesthetic. I will always consult with you beforehand and review the images as we go.
A portrait is a more intimate, slower session revolving around you and your personality. We take our time on these sessions and really allow both the subject and photographer to settle in and get comfortable with each other. The sky is the limit on these shoots. If it seems possible, we’ll give it a try.
Team Headshots are good for corporations and businesses looking to update their teams headshots all at once to help keep the consistency of the brand between platforms and individuals. We are capable of photographing large teams of people. We bring our studio to your location so everyone can take their headshot and get back to work with minimal interruption. These sessions run roughly 5-10 minutes per person
Do I need a headshot?
Absolutely not. A professional headshot isn’t for everyone and not everyone needs one. If you’re someone with a online presence, interact with others online, own a business, have a team of people, are looking for a job or are hoping to expand your career options you might want to think about a professional headshot for yourself and your team.
A good headshot does more than make you look good. It also helps reflect you and your companies brand, personality and values. Keeping your imagery clean and consistent will help individuals see your brand as consistent and cohesive and professional. This helps potential clients find trust in you and/or your brand. Professional headshots are a good place to begin
Why choose a professional?
There are many reasons to choose a professional photographer. From brand consistency to the required gear for the job, a professional photographer can help significantly streamline the process of building your brand’s online presence. When prospective clients see you and your team have consistent, high quality images it shows you take yourself seriously.
Technical expertise of a headshot photographer is important. From directing facial expressions and posing to lighting and gear choices, these things can make or break your experience and final product. An experienced headshot photographer will know how to take care of the technical side of things so you and your team can get back to focusing on your projects.
PHOTOSHOOT INFORMATION
What can I expect when booking a professional photoshoot?
You can expect every photoshoot to start with a fifteen minute phone consultation where we will discuss your goals, preferred style and intended uses for your images. ie. LinkedIn, businesses, websites, portfolios, print, etc. This helps us decide whether we need to scout locations, hire additional team members like assistants and hair and makeup, what gear is required for the shoot and most importantly it helps us understand your expectations, comfort level and overall personality and/or brand more. Having a few ideas or a mood board ready to share with us is a great way to help us get started in the right direction. If you like the images we have here, that’s perfect. Our specialty.
After we discuss the scope of your project we can move on to scheduling your photoshoot. Most photoshoots are booked 2-3 weeks in advance and 4-6 weeks in advance during busier periods. Special arrangements can be made if you require a shoot before the available time at an additional fee. I will be in touch with you two days prior to your photoshoot to confirm all details and go over the plan for the day of the shoot.
What can I expect on the day of my photoshoot?
On the day of the shoot, I will arrive early (one hour before the first scheduled photo) and setup the gear in the appropriate location, take test images, review the plan and begin. Each individual takes roughly 5-10 minutes to photograph. During each session I will work closely with every individual making sure to guide and direct everyone, no matter how nervous they are. The shoots are meant to be lighthearted and professional, this helps everyone stay at ease and enjoy the process.
During the shoot each person can expect to have have a seat or stand in a specific area and simply take a few directions. I will share the images as I go and collect all necessary information to ensure images get delivered to the right person. If you have a producer, director or art director on location they are more than welcome to work closely with us as we are shooting.
Once everyone has has their photo taken we can sit down and review the images to make sure we hit the mark. When everyone is happy with what they see I’ll quietly tear down my equipment and be out of your hair.
What happens after the photoshoot?
Our file backup and editing process ensures your images will be safe. Because hard drives have a tendency to fail over time it is important to have redundant backups of all your files. Knowing this, I backup all files on a hard drive on location and on a server off location. Once your files are backed up, I will make selections of the best images, do basic editing and send you proofs. Once selections have been made, I will do final edits which includes blemish and skin retouching, teeth whitening, dodging and burning and whatever else is necessary. Full resolution images and images sized for all your needs ie websites, social media and print will also be included.
For more information on our editing process click here.
What is the purpose of different file types and sizes?
Files used for web, graphic design and print have different requirements when it comes to the size and type of file needed. We take care of the technical side of this, but if you’d like to learn more you can check out our blog post about optimal file handling here.
What am I allowed to do with the files once I receive them?
Anything you want! You can use them for business cards, online profiles, email signatures, bios on websites… etc. The files are yours.
